The Close Day Nursery School is the trading name for Abbeymeads Day Nurseries Ltd who took over the Nursery in June 2015. It is a privately owned limited company.

The Close Nursery School Banbury - outside viewThere has been an established nursery on site for over 60 years

The nursery is run very much as part of a “family” with an excellent team lead by Lorraine Wetherill and provides a very homely environment for your child to stay in.

We were previously known as The Close Nursery School and pleasingly were awarded with ‘Outstanding in all areas’ by Ofsted in 2013. The nursery is now under new ownership, but the manager and all early years practitioners are all long term employees who were integral to this outstanding achievement.

We are the first, and currently the only, private Banbury based Nursery to have achieved this exceptional level. The Close Nursery School report can be found on the OFSTED Website – click here to access the OFSTED page and the the September 2013 report.

We also have a 5 star “scores on the doors” food and general hygiene rating.

Our principle is to be as flexible as possible to suit the needs of parents, carers and especially the children, and we are offer 08:00 starts; 18:00 finishes; together with breakfast for the early starters and tea for the late leavers.

We cater for children from 6 months upwards, and are very flexible in the range of hours offered. This includes a full time, 50 week per year contract which can include full time or part days in a week. For those seeking to take advantage of the Early Years Flexible 15 funding for eligible children, we are able to offer sessions from 12:00 onwards and can provide either 15 hours per week over 38 weeks or 12 hours per week over 48 weeks.

We are working with Oxfordshire County Council to provide fully funded places for eligible two year old children, based on a maximum of 12 hours per week over 48 weeks. To find out more call us on 01295 263569; speak to your Health Visitor; or your contact at Britannia Road Children’s centre.

All Oxfordshire County Council funding can be “stretched” so that we are able to provide the full 570 hours per year to fit best with your needs, subject to EYFG conditions, so please feel free to discuss this with us either over the phone or when you visit.

We have three interconnecting rooms all of which open out onto the large garden area.

The rooms are:

The baby room     which caters for 0 to 24 months;

The middle room which caters for 24 to 36 months; and

The big room         which is the preschool room from 36 months upwards.

Major refurbishment and improvements have recently been completed including a safety surface on part of the outside area, a large sand pit and extended sheltered outside the Big Room.

We have now completed the unique “Outdoor Classroom” allowing classes to be taken outside in all weathers.

Inside, our preschool room has been divided into defined areas which include a quiet area for reading, a discovery area, a maths area, a free art area, a computer area and an extensive “home corner”, as well as an open area in which to play freely with resources of choice. We have also got a “funky junk percussion dustbin” which contains all the instruments to make loud and interesting music!

We have extensive outside facilities including a covered rope-walk, a woodland walk, a digging area (which is great to find worms in) and a mud kitchen, and a vegetable patch.
